The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reiterated its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and other professional bodies to promote responsible communication, strengthen stakeholder engagement and support the sustainable growth of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry.
The commitment was reaffirmed by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, during a courtesy visit by the President of NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, and members of the institute’s leadership at the Commission’s headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
Maida said effective collaboration with organisations such as NIPR remains critical to improving public understanding of the Commission’s regulatory activities and advancing confidence in Nigeria’s digital economy.
He congratulated the institute on securing the hosting rights for the 2026 World Public Relations Forum, describing the achievement as evidence of the country’s growing influence in global professional circles.
According to him, the successful bid demonstrates the value of strategic communication, persistence and effective storytelling in positioning Nigeria on the international stage.

The NCC boss also highlighted another major international event scheduled for the country—the African Telecommunications Union (ATU) Conference of Plenipotentiaries in July 2026—and encouraged NIPR to leverage the gathering to further project Nigeria’s image as a leading digital economy in Africa.
On the telecommunications sector, Maida said the Commission has intensified public education and awareness campaigns around key regulatory initiatives, including the protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), efficient data usage, simplified tariff information for consumers and the rollout of the public telecom coverage map aimed at improving transparency and service delivery.
He noted that recent regulatory reforms have begun to restore investor confidence, attracting fresh investments into the sector after years of limited growth.
“The investments we are seeing today are not merely about sustaining existing infrastructure but about expanding the industry. This reflects growing confidence in the regulator, the government’s reforms and the opportunities within Nigeria’s telecom market,” he said.
Speaking during the visit, NIPR President Dr. Ike Neliaku praised the NCC’s commitment to stakeholder engagement and its contributions to Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
He said the institute is ready to work closely with the Commission on initiatives that promote responsible communication, strengthen public trust and improve awareness of telecommunications policies and regulatory programmes across the country.
The meeting underscores ongoing efforts by both organisations to foster stronger collaboration in support of a resilient telecommunications ecosystem and a more informed digital society.
