Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 17 smartphone in Nigeria, introducing a device built around a large-capacity battery, bigger display and upgraded camera system as competition intensifies in the country’s smartphone market.
The Redmi 17 comes with a 7,500mAh battery, one of its key hardware features, aimed at supporting extended use for activities such as video streaming, social media, calls, gaming and photography.
The phone supports 45W Turbo Charging, allowing users to recharge the battery faster when power runs low.
It features a 6.9-inch display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The higher refresh rate is designed to deliver smoother scrolling, animations and motion when browsing or consuming content.
For photography, Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi 17 with a 50MP AI dual-camera system, targeting everyday photography and content creation.

The smartphone is powered by MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra chipset and runs on Xiaomi HyperOS 3, the company’s latest operating system.
The device also introduces Dynamic RGB lighting, with lighting effects that respond to activities such as incoming calls, notifications and charging.
On the design front, the Redmi 17 adopts a flat display and matte frame and comes in four colour options: Black, Deep Blue, Oak Green and Lotus Purple.
Xiaomi said the device is aimed at consumers who require longer battery life and a large display while using their smartphones for communication, entertainment and content consumption.
The Redmi 17 is available in Nigeria in three configurations.
The 4GB RAM/128GB storage version is priced at ₦213,400, while the 6GB RAM/128GB model costs ₦271,700. The top 6GB RAM/256GB storage variant is priced at ₦302,200.
The launch adds another option to Nigeria’s increasingly competitive mid-range smartphone segment, where manufacturers are competing on battery capacity, display technology, cameras and storage.
