Nigeria’s transition to a fully digital tax administration system received a significant boost as Afri Invoice announced it has been accredited by the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) as an official Access Point Provider (APP), enabling the fintech company to connect businesses directly to the country’s emerging e-invoicing infrastructure.
The accreditation comes ahead of the next phase of Nigeria’s mandatory e-invoicing implementation and positions Afri Invoice among a select group of technology providers authorised to facilitate secure transmission of electronic invoices into the NRS Merchant Buyer Solution (MBS) platform.
The development follows the company’s recent approval as a Systems Integrator, giving it dual-authorisation status within Nigeria’s rapidly expanding tax technology ecosystem.
As governments worldwide increasingly leverage digital platforms to improve tax compliance and revenue collection, Nigeria has embarked on a major transformation of its fiscal infrastructure through the deployment of the Merchant Buyer Solution. The platform is designed to enable real-time invoice validation, transaction monitoring, and enhanced transparency across business transactions.
Industry experts view electronic invoicing as a critical component of digital governance, capable of reducing tax leakages, improving compliance monitoring, and generating more accurate economic data.
With the expansion of the e-invoicing mandate beyond large taxpayers to medium-sized and smaller enterprises, businesses are expected to rely heavily on accredited technology partners to navigate integration requirements and regulatory compliance.
According to Afri Invoice, obtaining the APP licence required rigorous technical assessment, including evaluation of platform resilience, cybersecurity capabilities, software architecture, and adherence to global interoperability standards such as PEPPOL.
Speaking on the milestone, Founder of Afri Invoice, Mark Odenore, said the accreditation reflects growing confidence in indigenous technology providers to support national digital transformation initiatives.
“This accreditation represents one of the most significant milestones in our journey. Beyond compliance, we see e-invoicing as a catalyst for business efficiency, transparency and digital innovation. Our objective is to ensure that businesses of all sizes can participate in the new tax ecosystem without facing unnecessary technical barriers,” he said.
The company disclosed that its platform provides end-to-end automation of the invoicing process, integrating with existing enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems while supporting real-time submission, digital certificate management, invoice validation and audit tracking.
Director of Strategy and Operations at Afri Invoice, Fatimata Niang, said scalability and security were central considerations in the platform’s design.
“Our infrastructure was built to global standards for interoperability, security and performance. Every invoice processed through the platform is cryptographically secured and fully traceable. As adoption expands across millions of taxpayers, we are prepared to support the scale required by Nigeria’s evolving digital economy,” she said.
The platform supports NRS-mandated tax classifications, payment status requirements and standardised transaction formats, helping businesses maintain compliance while preparing for future cross-border interoperability initiatives.
The latest accreditation underscores the growing role of fintech and RegTech firms in supporting government-led digital transformation projects, particularly in areas such as taxation, compliance automation and public-sector digitisation.
