Ride-hailing platform Bolt has announced plans to allow customers pay for rides directly within ChatGPT, a move expected later in 2026 as the company deepens its investment in artificial intelligence-powered mobility services.
The upcoming feature builds on Bolt’s newly announced integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, enabling users to plan and organise their journeys without leaving the AI platform.
With the integration, users can ask ChatGPT for ride options, receive estimated fares, compare routes, view estimated driver arrival times and identify the most convenient pickup location. Once a trip is confirmed, the booking is currently completed through the Bolt app.
However, Bolt says the next phase will eliminate that extra step by introducing in-chat payments.
“Payments will initially continue through the Bolt app, but we plan to enable customers to pay for rides directly inside ChatGPT later this year,” the company said.
Expanding Reach Through AI
The move positions Bolt among the first global ride-hailing companies to integrate its services directly into a conversational AI platform.
The company currently serves more than 200 million users across over 50 countries and 850 cities, offering ride-hailing, car rentals, scooters and e-bike services.
By becoming accessible through ChatGPT, Bolt could significantly expand its potential audience by tapping into the platform’s estimated 900 million weekly users worldwide.
AI Is Changing How People Travel
The announcement comes as artificial intelligence increasingly influences how people plan everyday activities, especially travel.
According to Accenture’s Consumer Pulse Research 2025, which surveyed 18,000 consumers across 14 countries, 80% of global travellers now use AI tools for travel-related activities, while more than half are willing to let AI manage their travel arrangements from start to finish.
Bolt believes this shift in consumer behaviour makes conversational ride booking the next logical step.
Senior General Manager for Bolt West Africa, Teddy Appah-Dankyi, said consumers are increasingly relying on AI assistants instead of switching between multiple apps.
“People don’t plan their evening in five different apps anymore. Much of that planning now happens in a single conversation with AI. We believe requesting a ride should be just as simple—ask, see the price and go,” he said.
As AI becomes a central gateway for digital services, Bolt’s latest move signals how ride-hailing could evolve beyond standalone apps into AI-powered conversations, making transportation faster, smarter and more seamless for millions of users worldwide.
